10 of the Most Valuable Cards in Magic: The Gathering’s Edge of Eternities Set
Wizards of the Coast’s new strategy for Magic: The Gathering sees a new set arriving almost every 6 weeks like clockwork, which meant we barely had time to recover from the Final Fantasy Universes Beyond drop before the latest in-universe set was right around the corner. Edge of Eternities has been a huge hit with both Magic veterans and newcomers alike, and the hype and price inflation surrounding Final Fantasy seems to have leaked over a bit into the release for Edge of Eternities. The Collector Booster packs and display boxes for Edge of Eternities have gone up significantly over their retail cost as players hope to track down any of the following 10 most valuable cards in the set, some of which are still fetching hundreds of dollars on the secondary market.
Sothera, the Supervoid
- Printing — Singularity Foil
- Condition — Near-Mint (NM)
- Rarity — Mythic Rare
- Number — 382
- Market Price — $1,816.67
The biggest “chase” card for the Edge of Eternities set is the special “black hole” printing of Sothera, the Supervoid. Dubbed the “Singularity Foil”, the card itself features no text other than the card’s name and its mana cost, letting the artwork take center stage as the star of the show. Seeing one of these in person really hammers home how beautiful a treatment it is, as well as how cool the galaxy foil printings look, but it’s surprising to see it netting anywhere from $1,800 to $2,000 from recent sales data. It’s not a serialized card in the traditional sense, but it is an ultra-rare card that serves as the set’s headliner pull.
Ancient Tomb (Borderless)
- Printing — Galaxy Foil
- Condition — Near-Mint (NM)
- Rarity — Mythic Rare
- Number — 136
- Market Price — $386.39
With just a few exceptions, the most valuable cards in the Edge of Eternities set are lands. There are several fetch, dual, and shock lands that were reprinted with space and sci-fi-themed artwork for Edge of Eternities, and nearly all of them are fetching exorbitant prices for their galaxy foil treatments. The most valuable is the borderless Ancient Tomb, which can be tapped for two colorless mana at the cost of dealing 2 damage. Considering this card’s excellent utility in pretty much any format, it’s no surprise to see it netting almost $400.
Gemstone Caverns (Borderless)
- Printing — Galaxy Foil
- Condition — Near-Mint (NM)
- Rarity — Mythic Rare
- Number — 151
- Market Price — $373.96
Gemstone Caverns is another excellent land card that gives players a huge advantage if it happens to be in their opening hand. If players can pull this in their opening 7, they can immediately play it on the battlefield with a luck counter, which doubles its mana generation when tapped. Every version of Gemstone Caverns in the Edge of Eternities set is fetching a nice price right now, but the galaxy foil printing continues to climb, sitting at around $375 for a near-mint copy.
Ancient Tomb (Borderless, Stellar Sights)
- Printing — Galaxy Foil
- Condition — Near-Mint (NM)
- Rarity — Mythic Rare
- Number — 91
- Market Price — $351.56
Slightly less valuable than its standard borderless cousin is the Stellar Sights treatment of Ancient Tomb, which is currently valued at just over $350 for its galaxy foil printing. Again, the value of cards like Ancient Tomb and Gemstone Caverns comes from the fact that these lands have only rarely ever been reprinted, and that their galaxy foil versions are extremely rare pulls that players can only get from Edge of Eternities Collector Boosters, hence, why Collector Booster displays have shot up from $240 to around $400.
Exalted Sunborn (Showcase)
- Printing — Fracture Foil
- Condition — Near-Mint (NM)
- Rarity — Mythic Rare
- Number — 384
- Market Price — $351.37
One of Edge of Eternities’ most valuable cards prior to the set’s release was the standard printing for Exalted Sunborn, and that card’s Showcase variant has rocketed up in value to become the most expensive non-land card in the set (other than the headliner, Sothera). In addition to the anime-themed Showcase cards being very cool to look at and featuring some stunning artwork, the ultra-rare fracture foil treatment cards are pretty hard to obtain, which has helped this version of Exalted Sunborn reach over $350 in market value.
Icetill Explorer (Showcase)
- Printing — Fracture Foil
- Condition — Near-Mint (NM)
- Rarity — Mythic Rare
- Number — 388
- Market Price — $315.65
The Showcase cards in fracture foil are already rare pulls in the Edge of Eternities set, but it seems like players are more likely to pull their Japanese language printings than their English ones, which has made the standard English printings even more valuable than they would be already. Icetill Explorer is a great example of the discrepancy between the two, with its English printing netting roughly $315 and its Japanese one only worth a fraction of that. Still, regardless of which printing of Icetill Explorer you might get, it’s a fantastic card for anyone running green color identity.
Starfield Vocalist (Showcase)
- Printing — Fracture Foil
- Condition — Near-Mint (NM)
- Rarity — Mythic Rare
- Number — 385
- Market Price — $273.52
The anime-inspired Showcase version of Starfield Vocalist is hands-down the most valuable version of what’s otherwise a fairly common pull, with its current market value sitting around $275 for a near-mint, English-language printing. If you look closely at the card’s ability, it’s easy to see why. For 3 generic and a blue, you get a creature with an ability similar to one of Magic‘s most popular commanders, Isshin, that doesn’t require combat. Instead, it applies dual triggers to any entry ability, making it one of the best creatures in the Edge of Eternities set.
Gemstone Caverns (Borderless, Stellar Sights)
- Printing — Galaxy Foil
- Condition — Near-Mint (NM)
- Rarity — Mythic Rare
- Number — 106
- Market Price — $262.22
Even though it’s only worth about half as much as the standard Borderless version, the Stellar Sights treatment of Gemstone Caverns can still net about $260 for its galaxy foil printing. Even a regular version of this card is going for about $35 right now, which shows just how useful a land Gemstone Caverns is, regardless of what kind of color identity your deck has.
Mana Confluence (Borderless)
- Printing — Galaxy Foil
- Condition — Near-Mint (NM)
- Rarity — Mythic Rare
- Number — 160
- Market Price — $222.57
Both the foil and the galaxy foil printings of Mana Confluence are two of the more valuable cards in the Edge of Eternities set, with the rarer galaxy foil beating it out to sit at around $222 as of the time of writing. Having seen one of these in person (not mine, unfortunately), I can attest to how striking a card it is in the galaxy foil printing, and it’s only made all the more valuable thanks to its utility as one of the more flexible (and low-cost) shock lands.
The Endstone (Showcase)
- Printing — Fracture Foil
- Condition — Near-Mint (NM)
- Rarity — Mythic Rare
- Number — 391
- Market Price — $190.12
Wrapping things up as the 10th most-valuable card in the Edge of Eternities set is another Showcase card in the fracture foil treatment, this time for the highly sought-after legendary artifact, The Endstone. This card requires players to lose half of their starting life, but in exchange, you get one of the better card advantage engines in Edge of Eternities. This version of the card is easily the most visually striking (especially in fracture foil with the holographic border), and it’s currently netting around $200.
