2K Games and Gearbox Software announced yesterday that the pre-orders for Borderlands 4 are now live. As is series tradition at this point, players have several different pre-order configurations to choose from, with Borderlands 4 available in a Standard, Deluxe, and Super Deluxe Edition. While the title is confirmed to be coming to the Switch 2 at launch later this year on September 12, the pre-orders are currently only available for the PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S versions of the game. Most of the bonuses that are included in each edition of the pre-order amount to various cosmetics for the Vault Hunters and their weapons, but the higher, more expensive tiers of the game come packaged with access to new content that will be available separately as DLC in the months following Borderlands 4‘s launch.

Borderlands 4 Standard Edition

Every Edition of Borderlands 4 Up for Pre-Order
  • Price — $69.99

Includes:

  • Full base game of Borderlands 4
  • Gilded Glory Pack
    • 1 Vault Hunter Skin
    • 1 Weapon Skin
    • 1 ECHO-4 Drone Skin

Despite some confusion regarding the title’s price following comments from Gearbox head Randy Pitchford, the standard version of Borderlands 4 is sticking to the standard AAA pricing of $70. For that MSRP, players can pre-order the game ahead of its September launch to get access to a handful of in-game cosmetics for their Vault Hunter, weapon, and ECHO-4 Drone. Outside of the cosmetic bonuses, the Standard Edition pre-order of Borderlands 4 includes no post-launch content like both the Deluxe and Super Deluxe editions.

    • 4 unique areas with new missions and bosses
    • 4 Vault Cards with new challenges and rewards
    • New gear and weapons
    • New Vault Hunter cosmetics
    • 4 new Vehicles and cosmetics

The middle tier of Borderlands 4 pre-orders is the Deluxe Edition, which includes all the cosmetic bonuses from the Standard Edition along with a slew of other content. Notably, the Deluxe Edition is the first pre-order tier to include access to post-launch story content, courtesy of the “Bounty Pack” that will be available as a separate purchase to Standard Edition players sometime after the game’s launch. The Bounty Pack amounts to the first major DLC drop for Borderlands 4, introducing 4 new areas with new missions and boss encounters, new weapons, new cosmetics, and new vehicle options for traversing the game’s large, open-world maps. There’s currently no set date for when that DLC content will arrive, with the press release noting that the Bounty Pack and Vault Hunter Pack DLCs will become available “post-launch”.

The most premium edition of Borderlands 4 is the Super Deluxe Edition pre-order, which includes everything from the Standard and Deluxe editions while also throwing in access to the second major DLC, the Vault Hunter pack, along with an exclusive set of Ornate Order cosmetics. The Super Deluxe Edition retails for almost twice the price of the Standard Edition at $130, but it does include access to all of Borderlands 4‘s eventual DLC once it becomes available. Considering how essential most Borderlands games’ DLC is to the core experience, Gearbox is once again banking on longtime fans of the series to go ahead and commit to the Super Deluxe Edition to save some money over purchasing the DLC separately once it’s available.

Do note, though, that Borderlands games typically go on a deep discount within a year after their launch. While the Borderlands 3 Super Deluxe Edition was also $130 ahead of the game’s launch in 2020, you can now regularly pick up the base game and all of its DLC content for less than $20 as part of regular sales on Steam, PSN, or the Xbox Store.
