The post All the Announcements at the June 2025 PlayStation State of Play appeared first on Cheat Code Central.
Sony aired its June 2025 PlayStation State of Play showcase yesterday at 5 pm EST, and over the course of an hour, we got to see some incredibly exciting announcements, reveals, and gameplay deep-dives for a slew of titles heading to the PlayStation 5 and PSVR over the next 6 to 12 months. Ahead of the showcase, most assumed that it would contain more information on previously announced upcoming major exclusives like Death Stranding 2 and Ghost of Yotei, but those titles barely made an appearance. Instead, yesterday’s State of Play was jam-packed with announcements for titles we either didn’t know existed or weren’t sure when they would release. All in all, it was one of the best and most exciting showcases Sony has had in quite some time.

There’s no set release date yet, but Lumines Arise is set to arrive sometime later this year.

It’s been a while since one-of-a-kind game designer Suda51 has worked on a new project (the last being No More Heroes III), and his and Grasshopper Manufacture’s next game made its triumphant debut at yesterday’s State of Play showcase. Dubbed Romeo is a Dead Man, this absolutely bonkers-looking action game promises to be the most violent and surreal Suda51 title yet, complete with an impressive mix of visual and gameplay styles to accompany its time-hopping storyline.

The Silent Hill franchise is experiencing a bit of a renaissance right now thanks to the excellent remake of Silent Hill 2, so to get such a promising new entry in the series so soon is a boon for survival horror fans. One of the most exciting announcements of the State of Play showcase, and one that was completely unexpected, was the reveal of a full-blown Bloodstained sequel. Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles is a faithful remaster of the PS1 turn-based tactics classic that retains the core gameplay and visuals of the original but adds in modern touches like voice acting and some quality of life improvements. Best of all, it contains the entire original version of the game as well, finally bringing the title to modern hardware.
Baby Steps

- Developer — Bennet Foddy, Gabe Cuzzillo, Maxi Boch
- Publisher — Devolver Digital
- Release Date — September 8, 2025
Australian video game developer Bennet Foddy made a name for himself with iconic titles like QWOP and Getting Over It, and he’s now back with the incredible-looking Baby Steps. Supposedly one of the funniest games to have ever been produced, Baby Steps is about learning how to walk, and it’s apparently just as ridiculous a premise for a game as it sounds in action. We already knew about Baby Steps before the State of Play showcase, but the title now has a confirmed release date of September 8.
Hirogami

This one will be out on September 3 for both PS5 and PC.

Back in the PS1 and PS2 eras, Hot Shots Golf (Everybody’s Golf in Japan) was one of the better golf games, and the series is set to make its return on September 5. This new entry, Everybody’s Golf Hot Shots, combines the cross-cultural naming conventions of the series into a single title, and looks to be the same fun, arcade-style take on the sport that its previous iterations were.

The Game Bakers’ Cairn is another one that’s been on our radar for a while now, and it finally has an official release date of November 5. There’s a demo that’s currently playable to check the game out ahead of its release later in the year.

Project Defiant

There are plenty of third-party fight sticks available for the PlayStation 4 that are incompatible with the PS5, creating a need for Sony to develop its own first-party solution. Yesterday’s State of Play showcase revealed Project Defiant as Sony’s official fight stick for the PS5, and it looks incredible. As it turns out, the reveal of the official PS5 fight stick was just half of the equation for fighting game fans to get excited about from the June 2025 State of Play.
Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater

The upcoming remake of Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, Metal Gear Solid Delta, got an extended trailer at the June 2025 State of Play, with special attention paid to the game’s returning Ape Escape mode and some more story cutscenes showing off the new visuals. August can’t come soon enough.
Nioh 3

- Developer — Team Ninja
- Publisher — Koei Tecmo
- Release Date — 2026
Team Ninja blew the doors off the State of Play showcase with the reveal and shadow drop of a demo for Nioh 3, which looks to be every bit as gorgeous and punishing as the incredible Nioh 2. The drop of a demo for the title is surprising, considering it has a 2026 release window, but early impressions indicate that it’s worth checking out to see the new gameplay tweaks like the “Ninja” combat style.
Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow

- Developer — Maze Theory
- Publisher — Vertigo Games
- Release Date — TBA 2025
A new traditional Thief game would have been a nice surprise, but instead we are getting a new Thief game that’s a VR title. Still, Thief VR: Legacy of Shadow looks pretty good, and it’s coming from a very talented studio with several great VR titles under its belt.
Tides of Tomorrow

- Release Date — February 24, 2026
An apparent cross between Subnautica and BioShock, Tides of Tomorrow is an interesting title that sees you explore an ocean planet and struggle to survive, all while dealing with the ramifications of another player’s choices. This unique asymmetrical multiplayer survival game is coming early next year, and it’s seemingly bringing something new to the table through its eclectic genre mix.
Astro Bot Content

The director of Astro Bot made an appearance at the State of Play showcase to drop a couple of announcements related to the title and to thank players for their support. Not only is Astro Bot getting some new challenge levels and bots to collect, the Astro Bot DualSense controller will be available soon.
Sea of Remnants

- Developer — Joker Studio
- Publisher — NetEase Games
- Release Date — 2026
The debut trailer for Sea of Remnants looks very interesting, mostly for its incredible visual style and pirate aesthetic. While there’s not much known about the game outside of what was shown in yesterday’s reveal, the title’s art direction and action RPG gameplay are working overtime to sell it as a title worth keeping an eye on until it releases next year.
Sword of the Sea

- Publisher — Giant Squid
- Release Date — August 19, 2025
Giant Squid, makers of Abzu and The Pathless, have another atmospheric and meditative adventure game coming out soon with Sword of the Sea. The visual comparisons to classics like Journey are hard to ignore, and there’s something very cool about using a giant sword as a surfboard to cross a giant desert, so we’re excited to check this one out when it launches in August.
PlayStation Plus Announcements

The State of Play showcase took a moment yesterday to highlight several noteworthy games making their way to PS Plus in the coming months, with Remedy’s FBC Firebreak revealed as a Day 1 title for the service. Equally as exciting, though, were the reveals of titles that Sony is adding to the PS Plus Classics lineup, which include both Twisted Metal 3 and 4, Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, and the PS2 version of Deus Ex.
007 First Light

©007 First Light gameplay screenshot – Original
- Developer — IO Interactive
- Publisher — IO Interactive
- Release Date — 2026
While we knew that IO Interactive was working on a James Bond game, we didn’t get an official reveal trailer until yesterday’s State of Play showcase, and boy was it worth the wait. 007 First Light takes players back to the origins of the world’s greatest spy, covering his introduction to MI6 and the 00 Agent program as a young naval officer who gets wrapped up in the world of espionage. Knowing IO Interactive’s track record on the Hitman games, this is going to be one of the better titles to tackle Ian Fleming’s character.
Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls

©Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls gameplay screenshot – Original
- Developer — Arc System Works
- Publisher — PlayStation Studios
- Release Date — 2026
Closing out the State of Play showcase was the announcement of Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, a 4v4 fighting game from the makers of Guilty Gear that looks absolutely incredible. The Marvel IP has a somewhat legendary legacy of fighting games thanks to Capcom, and Arc System Works is going into Tōkon with the intention of honoring it. That Project Defiant fight stick reveal also makes a lot more sense now, as Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls is a first-party Sony game that will be exclusive to Steam and PS5.
