If you’re looking for a game that offers the vibes of Red Dead Redemption and Fallout, and is free to play on Steam, then look no further.
Both Red Dead Redemption and Fallout might have more in common than we might assume. They have vast open worlds, fun gunslinging action, compelling stories and memorable NPCs.
Despite being set in a post-apocalyptic, albeit retro world, Fallout also has its fair share of wild west inspirations.
Case and point, the sheriff-like, law enforcers known as the Minutemen from Fallout 4, not to mention the bounty-hunting Ghoul from the Amazon live-action series.
So, what is the free game that can be described as Red Dead Redemption meets Fallout on Steam, I hear you ask? The game in question is The Chroma: From the Wasteland, developed and published by an indie studio known as OUTLAW.
“The Chroma: From the Wasteland is an FPS game that races over a western train and takes on a gang eroded by an unknown presence,” reads its synopsis. “Be a Western-era outlaw, deal with a gang that’s occupying the train. Will you be able to get to the end of the train safely?”
After watching its gameplay trailer on Steam, I must say that it also gives me vibes of the Call of Juarez and Electronic Arts’ forgotten series, Mirror’s Edge.
At the time of writing, The Chroma: From the Wasteland has a “Positive” user review rating from 44 posts. That could increase or decrease in the coming weeks, but at least it’s a promising start.
“It’s definitely worth playing. The game is very polished, and the setting is interesting. It has fast-paced shooting, and the grappling grab mechanic is nice,” wrote Sir Ash Hull.
“It’s a bit rough around the edges, but the main course is done. The game can be finished in 10 minutes tops, but the gameplay is fun, the art style is original and honestly, for a small project, that’s great,” said Asmodhoa.
So, what are you waiting for? If you’ve got a few minutes to spare, you might as well check out The Chroma: From the Wasteland for free.
