The Best Deals to Grab During the Steam Third-Person Shooter Fest
Yesterday marked the kickoff of Steam’s newest sale event, the Third-Person Shooter fest, and as usual, we’re here to highlight some of the best ongoing deals for players to grab while it’s active. Third-Person Shooter fest runs until September 1, meaning players have roughly a week to grab any of the available discounts before these titles go back to their normal pricing. From newer AA and AAA hits to indie classics and more, there are a ton of excellent third-person shooter games available on Steam for their all-time lowest prices, so it’s a great time to pick up a new game if you’ve been in the market for something ahead of September’s onslaught of high-profile launches.
Vanquish
- Release Date — May 25, 2017
- Developer — PlatinumGames
- Publisher — Sega
- Steam User Score — 89% (Very Positive)
- Price — $5.99 (Normally $19.99, 70% off)
The excellent Vanquish is the only game that Shinji Mikami would produce while working with PlatinumGames, and it remains one of the all-time greatest titles to come from the legendary studio. A fast-paced, cover-based third-person shooter heavily inspired by anime and action films, Vanquish is pure adrenaline in video game form, and its later PC port is every bit as good as its original console versions from back in 2010. Sega will regularly put Vanquish on sale, and it’s back down to its historical low of just $6 as part of Steam’s Third-Person Shooter Fest (and highly recommended).
Remnant II
- Release Date — July 25, 2023
- Developer — Gunfire Games
- Publisher — Arc Games
- Steam User Score — 85% (Very Positive)
- Price — $19.99 (Normally $49.99, 60% off)
Gunfire Games’ Remnant II is everything you could want from a sequel, bigger and better than the already great Remnant: From the Ashes in just about every way. Since its launch in 2023, Remnant II has gotten some excellent DLC expansions and updates that streamline and modify its versatile class and character-building systems, and it’s just as much fun as a solo player as it is in co-op with up to two other friends. Remnant II is the type of content-rich package that you’d feel good about grabbing while it’s at full price, making its current 60% off discount an unmissable deal.
Max Payne 3
- Release Date — May 31, 2012
- Developer — Rockstar Studios
- Publisher — Rockstar Games
- Steam User Score — 84% (Very Positive)
- Price — $5.99 (Normally $19.99, 70% off)
After just publishing the first two games in the series, Rockstar would take over development duties on the third Max Payne game and deliver one of the best titles to star the grizzled noir detective. Max Payne 3 is a very different beast from the rest of the games in the series, but it still maintains the core “bullet-time” shooting action that you would expect. Further, it features a fantastic story and some of the greatest setpiece moments of the franchise to help balance out its occasionally tough-as-nails difficulty. And at its current sale price, Max Payne 3 is one of the best third-person shooters you could get for under $10.
El Paso, Elsewhere
- Release Date — September 26, 2023
- Developer — Strange Scaffold
- Publisher — Strange Scaffold
- Steam User Score — 90% (Very Positive)
- Price — $13.99 (Normally $19.99, 30% off)
Speaking of Max Payne, one of the best deals to grab as part of Steam’s Third-Person Shooter Fest is the very Max Payne-like El Paso, Elsewhere. El Paso, Elsewhere is the game that helped put developer Strange Scaffold on the map, blending the bullet-time diving and shooting action and internal monologue of the original Max Payne with a level-based horror game centered around shooting vampires and werewolves. El Paso, Elsewhere doesn’t often go on sale, and it’s a short but sweet experience that’s more than worth its current $14 asking price.
Suit For Hire
- Release Date — June 20, 2025
- Developer — Godmode Interactive
- Publisher — Godmode Interactive
- Steam User Score — 92% (Very Positive)
- Price — $8.99 (Normally $14.99, 40% off)
Another indie third-person shooter that may have slipped under most players’ radars and is currently on sale is Suit For Hire. This blend of behind-the-shoulder and top-down third-person shooting is about as close as we’ll get (for now) to a legitimate John Wick game, and it punches well above its weight in terms of both its presentation and its gameplay. Suit For Hire is an easy recommendation for shooter fans at its normal $15 asking price, which makes the current 40% sale a no-brainer for anyone looking for a fun and competent game under $10.
Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves Collection
- Release Date — October 19, 2022
- Developer — Naughty Dog, Iron Galaxy
- Publisher — PlayStation Publishing
- Steam User Score — 89% (Very Positive)
- Price — $19.99 (Normally $49.99, 60% off)
All of the Uncharted games are incredible experiences that seem to just get better with each new entry in the series, with Uncharted 4 arguably the franchise’s peak. The PC version of Uncharted 4 and the Lost Legacy expansion, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves, is both a peak third-person shooter and a peak PlayStation port that deserves a place in just about everyone’s Steam library, and it’s currently on a hefty 60% discount, bringing it down to just $20. If you play just one Uncharted game, Uncharted: Legacy of Thieves is probably your best option.
Control Ultimate Edition
- Release Date — August 27, 2020
- Developer — Remedy Entertainment
- Publisher — Remedy Entertainment
- Steam User Score — 89% (Very Positive)
- Price — $3.99 (Normally $39.99, 90% off)
It’s hard to believe that we’re coming up on the 5th anniversary of Control‘s release, because in that time, hardly any other game has managed to meet or surpass its compelling blend of excellent third-person shooter gameplay and an impeccable, sci-fi horror atmosphere. Remedy Entertainment games are unlike just about anything else out there, and Control is somehow unique even within the developer’s library, making it an essential pick-up for fans of either great shooters or games with original, compelling narratives. And at just $4, you’re getting one of the best games of the last few years for an absolute steal.
The Last of Us Part I
- Release Date — March 28, 2023
- Developer — Naughty Dog, Iron Galaxy
- Publisher — PlayStation Publishing
- Steam User Score — 81% (Very Positive)
- Price — $29.99 (Normally $59.99, 50% off)
Despite some initial technical woes that landed it a “Mostly Negative” user review score on Steam, Iron Galaxy and Naughty Dog have worked to improve the PC port of The Last of Us Part I and bring it to a state more befitting a game of its caliber. Now, The Last of Us Part I has a strong 81% “Very Positive” user score, cementing it as yet another unmissable PlayStation exclusive that’s made its way over to PC. If you’ve been on the fence about picking up The Last of Us Part I because of its technical performance, you can rest easy knowing it’s a safe purchase these days, and its current 50% off deal is even more incentive.
Everspace 2
- Release Date — April 6, 2023
- Developer — Rockfish Games
- Publisher — Rockfish Games
- Steam User Score — 88% (Very Positive)
- Price — $14.99 (Normally $49.99, 70% off)
Most people think of something resembling Resident Evil 4 when they think of a third-person shooter, but there are plenty of games in the genre that use either a different perspective or even dip their toes into other genres. A great example of this is Everspace 2, which is a third-person shooter, a roguelike, a flight combat game, and a heck of a good time all rolled into one. The “arcade”-style flight combat game has gone by the wayside over the last couple of decades, but both Everspace and Everspace 2 have made a great case for bringing it back, all while being almost endlessly replayable thanks to their roguelike structure. Grab Everspace 2 while it’s down to just $15 and be pleasantly surprised at it becoming one of your go-to games for a quick fix of action.
Sniper Elite: Resistance
- Release Date — January 30, 2025
- Developer — Rebellion
- Publisher — Rebellion
- Steam User Score — 71% (Mostly Positive)
- Price — $37.49 (Normally $49.99, 25% off)
The latest game in Rebellion’s Sniper Elite series, Sniper Elite: Resistance, only just came out in January, but it’s already down to just $38 as part of the Steam Third-Person Shooter Fest. It’s an excellent side story to Sniper Elite 5 that takes players to some different locations as part of a more stealth-focused adventure, and it even brings back some gameplay elements from Sniper Elite 4 that were missing in the last mainline entry. As far as the “stealth sandbox”-style games go, the Sniper Elite titles are some of the best, and Sniper Elite: Resistance is a solid entry in the franchise that’s definitely worth checking out while it’s on sale.
