The Best Deals to Grab on Steam This Week
Even though the Steam Political Sim Fest is drawing to a close this morning, there are still plenty of deals ripe for the picking this week on Valve’s service, including many titles getting their first-ever or historically low discounts. There are a handful of select AAA games that players may want to pick up if they’ve been on the fence about them since launch, but the real highlight of the deals this week on Steam is the large selection of excellent indie titles on sale, many of which are a perfect fit for Steam Deck as much as they are on a desktop or laptop. Most of the deals highlighted here will run until next Monday, September 22, giving players exactly a week to peruse what’s available and take the plunge on a new game.
Luck & Loot
- Release Date — August 1, 2025
- Developer — SMARTcreative
- Publisher — GrabTheGames
- Genre — Roguelike, Auto-Battler
- Steam User Score — 90% (Very Positive)
- Price — $6.39 (Normally $7.99, 20% off)
Auto-battlers with retro aesthetics are nothing new (just look at hits like Loop Hero and He Is Coming), but somehow, Luck & Loot manages to instantly shoot to the top of the pack thanks to how addictive and fun it is. Rather than explore a vast map like in He Is Coming or fight in a never-ending loop like Loop Hero, Luck & Loot is a dungeon-crawling roguelike where all combat is determined by a set of customizable dice, and you’ll start to realize the impressive depth of its combat and progression in just the first run as you upgrade and fit your dice to the situation at-hand. Luck & Loot is more than worth grabbing at full price, so it’s advisable to take advantage of its current 20% discount.
Monster Train 2
- Release Date — May 21, 2025
- Developer — Shiny Shoe
- Publisher — Big Fan Games
- Genre — Deckbuilder, Roguelike
- Steam User Score — 96% (Overwhelmingly Positive)
- Price — $19.99 (Normally $24.99, 20% off)
The roguelike deckbuilder is an incredibly crowded genre, with one of its early standouts being the incredible Monster Train. Shiny Shoe outdid itself with this year’s sequel, Monster Train 2, which is somehow better than the original and sets an incredibly high bar for the genre’s other most-anticipated sequel, Slay the Spire II. Monster Train 2 is yet another roguelike where it becomes immediately apparent how deep and rewarding its progression is after just one run, and you’ll find it hard to put down time and time again as that “just one more run” feeling kicks in indefinitely.
Astral Throne
- Release Date — February 7, 2025
- Developer — Zero Sun Games
- Publisher — Zero Sun Games
- Genre — TRPG, Roguelike
- Steam User Score — 85% (Very Positive)
- Price — $9.99 (Normally $19.99, 50% off)
The TRPG/SRPG genre is surprisingly under-represented in the roguelike space, with just a few games mixing elements of classic turn-based tactics role-playing with the structure and meta-progression of a roguelike. One of the more exciting is this year’s Astral Throne, which is basically a roguelike version of Fire Emblem in all but name. Coinciding with a recent major update and rebalancing to the game’s difficulty, developer Zero Sun Games has launched a sale that brings Astral Throne down to its lowest-ever price, and it’s most definitely worth grabbing for under $10.
Dead Space
- Release Date — January 27, 2023
- Developer — Motive
- Publisher — Electronic Arts
- Genre — Survival Horror
- Steam User Score — 90% (Very Positive)
- Price — $11.99 (Normally $59.99, 80% off)
Motive’s Dead Space remake is so good that it’s a crime we’re not getting a proper remake of Dead Space 2 handled by the studio, but you can at least put a salve on that burn with the current sale on 2023’s Dead Space. As far as video game remakes go, Dead Space plays things close to the chest by keeping the campaign and story almost exactly the same as the original, but the visuals and controls have been updated to make it the best way to play one of the survival horror genre’s all-time greatest games. The current 80% off sale on Dead Space makes it an absolute no-brainer to pick up for any survival horror fans who’ve held off on grabbing it until now.
XCOM 2
- Release Date — February 5, 2016
- Developer — Firaxis Games
- Publisher — 2K
- Genre — Turn-Based Tactics
- Steam User Score — 85% (Very Positive)
- Price — $2.99 (Normally $59.99, 95% off)
There’s a strong argument to be made that XCOM 2 is still the greatest turn-based tactics game of the modern era nearly 10 years after its release, and you need look no further than the sheer number of games that have borrowed wholesale from its mechanics to see why. It regularly goes on sale on Steam, and it’s once again back down to its historical low of just $3 (or 95% off), which is an absolute steal for what’s ostensibly one of the greatest and most influential games of the modern era. Better yet, you can grab the base game to see if you like the formula, then pick up the collection with all the DLC for just a few dollars more while the sale is active.
Fumes
- Release Date — July 28, 2025
- Developer — FUMES Team
- Publisher — FUMES Team
- Genre — Vehicular Combat
- Steam User Score — 96% (Overwhelmingly Positive)
- Price — $11.99 (Normally $14.99, 20% off)
Despite just releasing a couple of months ago, new vehicular combat game Fumes is already on a nice 20% discount as part of this week’s deals on Steam. If you’re someone who’s been lamenting the lack of car combat games since the demise of the Twisted Metal franchise, Fumes is 100% a game for you, especially if you have a fondness for the series’ first two entries on PS1. Fumes utilizes an era-appropriate visual style and some pitch-perfect driving and shooting mechanics to feel like an unearthed hidden gem from the original PlayStation library, and it’s arguably one of the year’s best indie games.
Severed Steel
- Release Date — September 17, 2021
- Developer — Greylock Studio
- Publisher — Greylock Studio
- Genre — FPS, Movement Shooter
- Steam User Score — 95% (Overwhelmingly Positive)
- Price — $1.24 (Normally $24.99, 95% off)
Of the games in the “movement shooter” subgenre of FPSes, Severed Steel is one of the best, and it’s currently down to an astoundingly low 95% off over on Steam. If you’re even slightly a fan of games like Titanfall 2, Sprawl, Ghostrunner, or even the new Metal Eden, you owe it to yourself to go back and check out Severed Steel while it’s less than $2, because it delivers an experience that’s worth much, much more than that price.
Roboquest
- Release Date — November 7, 2023
- Developer — RyseUp Studios
- Publisher — RyseUp Studios, Starbreeze Entertainment
- Genre — FPS, Roguelike
- Steam User Score — 95% (Overwhelmingly Positive)
- Price — $12.49 (Normally $24.99, 50% off)
There’s been a surprising influx of first-person shooter roguelikes this year, but almost none of them can compare to what’s arguably the best game in the genre: Roboquest. Roboquest is once again on sale for a nice 50% off discount, making it both one of the best and cheapest FPS roguelikes you can pick up for under $15. Roboquest starts simply enough before quickly ramping up the difficulty, but it also does a great job of giving you some powerful upgrades and tools that make you capable of meeting that challenge and offering one of the more satisfying progression curves of any FPS roguelike.
Sifu
- Release Date — March 28, 2023
- Developer — Sloclap
- Publisher — Sloclap, Kepler Interactive
- Genre — Action, Beat ’em Up
- Steam User Score — 92% (Very Positive)
- Price — $15.99 (Normally $39.99, 60% off)
When it comes to games that take the classic beat ’em up formula and successfully reinvent it for the modern era, perhaps no title has done it as well as Sifu, and it’s now back down to its historical low of just $16 on Steam. There’s no denying that Sifu can be an incredibly difficult game, even on Normal mode, but Sloclap’s decision to add in difficulty modes and other accessibility features makes it possible for just about anyone to enjoy this excellent action title.
Wild Hearts
- Release Date — February 16, 2023
- Developer — Koei Tecmo
- Publisher — Electronic Arts
- Genre — Action RPG
- Steam User Score — 56% (Mixed)
- Price — $6.99 (Normally $69.99, 90% off)
The Monster Hunter franchise has held a commanding lead over all other “hunt”-style action RPGs for more than two decades, but Wild Hearts makes a commendable attempt at something new. It has its fair share of technical issues that make playing it on certain setups a non-starter, but if your rig can run Wild Hearts, you’ll find that it’s a surprisingly great action RPG/monster hunting game that mixes normal combat with a greater emphasis on mobility and quick base/trap building to ensnare the various beasts you’re tracking down. Plus, at just $7, it’s a relatively low-risk proposition to give it a shot.
Primal Planet
- Release Date — July 28, 2025
- Developer — Seethingswarm
- Publisher — Pretty Soon
- Genre — Metroidvania
- Steam User Score — 90% (Very Positive)
- Price — $15.99 (Normally $19.99, 20% off)
Another of the newer games that’s already got a decent discount on Steam this week is Primal Planet. Primal Planet is a newer Metroidvania that places a heavier emphasis on survival mechanics and puzzle-solving than most other games in the genre, and it also happens to be a relatively digestible experience compared to other MVs, coming in at roughly 11-12 hours to 100% the game and see everything it has to offer. If you’ve finished Hollow Knight: Silksong and are looking for something a little more subdued and forgiving, Primal Planet is a great option.
Laika: Aged Through Blood
- Release Date — October 19, 2023
- Developer — Brainwash Gang
- Publisher — Thunderful Publishing
- Genre — Metroidvania
- Steam User Score — 93% (Very Positive)
- Price — $6.99 (Normally $19.99, 65% off)
Another Metroidvania that’s on sale this week, but one that’s on the complete opposite end of the difficulty spectrum from Primal Planet, is Laika: Aged Through Blood. This self-described “Motovania” is like a cross between a typical metroidvania game and a physics-based motorcycle sim like Trials or Excitebike, where you must use your bike in both combat and traversal of a vast, post-apocalyptic world inhabited by anthropomorphic animals. Laika is fairly difficult, but if the gameplay clicks with you, you’re in store for one of the most emotionally affecting stories in the genre.
Red Dead Redemption
- Release Date — October 29, 2024
- Developer — Rockstar Games, Double Eleven
- Publisher — Rockstar Games
- Genre — Action-Adventure
- Steam User Score — 92% (Very Positive)
- Price — $29.99 (Normally $49.99, 40% off)
When Rockstar made the decision to remaster and re-release Red Dead Redemption and the Undead Nightmare expansion back in 2024, players were rightfully a little annoyed that they were charging $50 for a game from 2010. But thanks to the current 40% off discount on Red Dead Redemption, it’s now a much more appealing $30, and it also happens to still be one of the best open-world action-adventure games ever made. In many ways, Red Dead Redemption is a better and more tightly-paced experience than Red Dead Redemption II, so if you happen to have missed out on this one back in the day, there’s never been a better time than now to pick it up.
Palworld
- Release Date — January 19, 2024
- Developer — Pocketpair
- Publisher — Pocketpair
- Genre — Action-Adventure, Survival, Crafting
- Steam User Score — 95% (Overwhelmingly Positive)
- Price — $22.49 (Normally $29.99, 25% off)
Pocetpair’s Palworld has been the subject of a fair share of controversy, mostly owing to Nintendo’s legal team relentlessly going after the game with accusations of Pokémon plagiarism and copyright infringement. As a result, players are once again rallying behind both the game and its developer, and Pocketpair has responded by providing another 25% discount on Palworld. Palworld mixes elements of both a traditional Pokémon game, an open-world action-adventure title, and a survival/crafting game to deliver an experience that ticks boxes Pokémon fans have been asking for for a long time, and it turns out it’s a pretty great game as a result.
Split Fiction
- Release Date — March 6, 2025
- Developer — Hazelight Studios
- Publisher — Electronic Arts
- Genre — Action-Adventure, Platformer, Co-op
- Steam User Score — 96% (Overwhelmingly Positive)
- Price — $44.99 (Normally $49.99, 10% off)
It’s not a super deep discount, but Hazelight Studios and Electronic Arts’ Game of the Year contender Split Fiction is down to its historic low on Steam thanks to its current 10% off sale. Split Fiction is yet again another jaw-dropping co-op experience that packs more creativity and ingenuity into one segment than most games do into their entire runtime, and being able to grab it for $5 less than its normal MSRP is a nice incentive to take the plunge and play with a friend or loved one if you’ve yet to experience it.
