The Best Games to Grab During the GOG Summer Sale

The post The Best Games to Grab During the GOG Summer Sale appeared first on Cheat Code Central.

A week out from the Steam Summer Sale for 2025, CD Projekt RED’s Good Old Games — a DRM-free PC game storefront and game preservation effort — has launched its own Summer Sale. The GOG Summer Sale runs from June 18 to July 9 and features a staggering number of discounts, with nearly 9,000 titles on offer. Aside from GOG purchases being DRM-free, meaning players own the titles outright without any fear of having their licensure revoked at a later date, GOG also does some great work in the field of game preservation, with many of the titles currently discounted being unavailable on other PC gaming storefronts like Steam or the Epic Games Store. This is far from an exhaustive list, but after scrolling through the first 50 or so pages of the 165 pages of deals, the following titles are games that we highly recommend picking up during GOG’s Summer Sale.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Complete Edition

The Best Games to Grab During the GOG Summer Sale
  • Release Date — May 18, 2015
  • Developer — CD Projekt RED
  • Publisher — CD Projekt RED
  • Genre — Action RPG
  • Steam User Score — 96% (Overwhelmingly Positive)
  • Price — $9.99 (Normally $49.99, 80% off)

Look, I don’t need to tell you that Witcher 3 is one of the greatest games of the last 20 years. Just about anyone who’s played CD Projekt RED’s RPG masterpiece knows good and well that it’s widely regarded as one of the best open-world role-playing games ever made. Heck, even if you haven’t played it, the amount of praise that’s been showered on Witcher 3 makes it one of those titles that’s impossible to ignore, especially when it regularly goes on sale to draw in newcomers. It’s currently on one of its regular deep discounts, with the Complete Edition (which features some must-play DLC) down to its historic low of just $10. If you haven’t played Witcher 3, you owe it to yourself to see what all the hype is about.

Heroes of Might and Magic III: Complete

Heroes of Might and Magic III gameplay
  • Release Date — March 3, 1999
  • Developer — New World Computing
  • Publisher — The 3DO Company
  • Genre — Turn-Based Strategy, RPG
  • Steam User Score — N/A
  • Price — $2.49 (Normally $9.99, 75% off)

There are quite a few excellent titles currently available at a discount in the GOG Summer Sale from the company’s “Good Old Games” preservation program, and Heroes of Might and Magic III Complete is arguably one of the best. This turn-based strategy and tactics hybrid is another of the most critically acclaimed and fan-loved games of its type, and its unavailability on other storefronts makes GOG the only place that players can download and play a version that’ll work on modern PC hardware. HoMM III is worth picking up at its normal $10 asking price, and its current discount of 75% off (bringing it down to just $2.50) makes it an absolute no-brainer to grab during the sale.

Fallout 4: Game of the Year Edition

Fallout 4 gameplay
  • Release Date — November 10, 2015
  • Developer — Bethesda Game Studios
  • Publisher — Bethesda Softworks
  • Genre — RPG
  • Steam User Score — 83% (Very Positive)
  • Price — $15.99 (Normally $39.99, 60% off)

While I personally prefer both Fallout 3 and New Vegas, there’s no denying that Fallout 4 is a great game and a major step-up from its predecessors in terms of the different layers it offers in its gameplay. After all, we can likely at least partially thank Fallout 4‘s excellent base-building component for the survival and crafting game craze of the last 10 years. Regardless of its importance and influence over the gaming landscape, Fallout 4 is a great RPG that features one of the best open worlds that Bethesda has ever created, and being able to get the impressive breadth of content on offer in the Game of the Year Edition for just $16 is a steal.

Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen

Dragon's Dogma gameplay
  • Release Date — January 15, 2016
  • Developer — Capcom
  • Publisher — Capcom
  • Genre — Action RPG
  • Steam User Score — 88% (Very Positive)
  • Price — $4.79 (Normally $29.99, 84% off)

Released just a few years after the initial launch of Dragon’s Dogma, Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen is essentially a “director’s cut” of the game that adds in a ton of new content and rebalances what was there. Effectively, it’s the best way to play what’s one of Capcom’s greatest and most underrated titles, and were it not for the success of Dark Arisen as a cult classic, we might never have gotten Dragon’s Dogma II. Dark Arisen normally goes on sale for around $10-15, depending on the storefront, and it’s currently down to a record low price of just under $5 as part of the GOG Summer Sale. If you have yet to play Dragon’s Dogma: Dark Arisen, there’s never been a better time to see what it’s all about.

Alan Wake

Alan Wake gameplay
  • Release Date — February 16, 2012
  • Developer — Remedy Entertainment
  • Publisher — Remedy Entertainment
  • Genre — Survival Horror
  • Steam User Score — 90% (Very Positive)
  • Price — $1.49 (Normally $14.99, 90% off)

Remedy Entertainment’s games are practically in a league of their own when it comes to atmospheric and well-written single-player experiences, and Alan Wake is still a high point in the developer’s catalog, more than 10 years since its release. Alan Wake uses light and shadow in incredibly clever ways while also featuring a fantastic story that blends elements of Stephen King, The X-Files, and Twin Peaks, and it’s currently down to just $1.49 as part of the GOG Summer Sale. Even if you’ve played Alan Wake before and don’t have it on PC, it’s hard to pass up the opportunity to add it to your game library for less than the cost of a cup of coffee.

Pillars of Eternity: Definitive Edition

Pillars of Eternity gameplay
  • Release Date — March 26, 2015
  • Developer — Obsidian Entertainment
  • Publisher — Xbox Game Studios
  • Genre — CRPG
  • Steam User Score — 87% (Very Positive)
  • Price — $9.99 (Normally $39.99, 75% off)

Obsidian’s Pillars of Eternity is back down to its historically low price as part of the GOG Summer Sale, which means you can currently grab the Definitive Edition of the game that comes with all the post-launch content for just $10. You’d be hard-pressed to find a better CRPG at that price. Pillars of Eternity taps into the thrill of playing the classic BioWare Baldur’s Gate games from back in the day, only it does so while also introducing some unique RPG mechanics and a wholly original world with some impressively vast lore and a compelling main story that pulls you along. Pick up Pillars of Eternity, complete at least one playthrough, and then steamroll ahead into both Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire and Avowed for some of the best modern role-playing games have to offer.

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun

Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun gameplay
  • Release Date — December 6, 2016
  • Developer — Mimimi Games
  • Publisher — Daedalic Entertainment
  • Genre — Stealth, Tactics
  • Steam User Score — 96% (Overwhelmingly Positive)
  • Price — $3.99 (Normally $39.99, 90% off)

The tragic closure of Mimimi Games came just as the developer had released the excellent Shadow Gambit, and its predecessor, Shadow Tactics, is just as good, if not better. Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun is a real-time tactics and stealth game in which you control a team of assassins with different abilities and use both positioning and strategy to quietly take out enemies, complete objectives, and avoid detection across stunningly detailed maps set in feudal Japan. It’s currently a whopping 90% off as part of the GOG Summer Sale, and it’s an unmissable experience for anyone who likes stealth games, tactics, or both.

Dishonored: Complete Collection

Dishonored 2 gameplay
  • Release Date — October 9, 2012
  • Developer — Arkane Studios
  • Publisher — Bethesda Softworks
  • Genre — Stealth, Immersive Sim, FPS
  • Steam User Score — 97% (Overwhelmingly Positive)
  • Price — $15.99 (Normally $79.99, 80% off)

Any one of the Dishonored games would be an essential pick-up. Thanks to the GOG Summer Sale, though, you can get all three for less than $20. The Dishonored: Complete Collection bundle includes the first game, Dishonored: Death of the Outsider, and Dishonored 2, bringing together three of the greatest modern stealth/immersive sim FPS games under a single umbrella. The Dishonored games, along with the excellent and underrated Prey, represent Arkane Studios at its peak, and they’re must-play titles for anyone who enjoys games like BioShock, Deus Ex, or Thief.

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky

The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky gameplay
  • Release Date — July 29, 2014
  • Developer — Nihon Falcom
  • Publisher — XSEED Games, Marvelous
  • Genre — JRPG
  • Steam User Score — 93% (Very Positive)
  • Price — $9.99 (Normally $19.99, 50% off)

The first game in the modern Legend of Heroes series, Trails in the Sky, is getting a remake this fall, so why not try out the original while it’s on a deep discount? The original Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky is down to its record low of just $10 as part of the GOG Summer Sale, and it’s honestly such a good RPG that it’s easily worth triple that price. The Trails games tell an incredibly ambitious interconnected story spanning more than 15 games, and it all begins with Trails in the Sky as a perfect jumping-on point.

Ys I & II Chronicles+

Ys I & II Chronicles+ gameplay
  • Release Date — February 14, 2013
  • Developer — Nihon Falcom
  • Publisher — XSEED Games
  • Genre — Action RPG
  • Steam User Score — 88% (Very Positive)
  • Price — $4.49 (Normally $14.99, 70% off)

Speaking of Nihon Falcom RPGs, the Ys series is just as beloved as the Legend of Heroes/Trails games, and the first two titles in the series are currently on sale for just $5. Ys I & II Chronicles+ are remakes/remasters of the first two games in the Ys series and do a great job of introducing players to the “classic” style of Ys gameplay, including the “Bump” combat system. They’re both short, but incredibly sweet, games that can be completed in an afternoon, but they do a great job of whetting the appetite before digging into the later games in the Ys series.
