The Best Games to Grab in the PlayStation Store End of Year Deals Sale
We’re barely out of the window for all the Black Friday sales, and the PlayStation Store is already running what’s arguably its best sales event of the year: the End of Year Deals Sale. Between now and December 22, players have hundreds of incredible games on the PlayStation Store to choose from, many of which are back down to previous discounts or at historically low prices. As we typically do with these sales, we’ve gone through page after page of all the available deals and highlighted the must-have titles that are at unbeatable prices, but rest assured that these selections are a mere fraction of all that’s available, with plenty more waiting to be picked through before the sale ends in a few weeks. If you’ve just received some PlayStation Store wallet funds as a gift, any of these games would be a fitting addition to the library.
Resident Evil
- Release Date — January 20, 2015
- Developer — Capcom
- Publisher — Capcom
- Genre — Survival Horror
- Review Aggregate Score — 83% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $4.99 (Normally $19.99, 75% off)
First up is the HD remaster of the 2002 GameCube remake of Resident Evil, which is down to an incredible $4.99 right now. Normally, Resident Evil goes on sale for 50% of its MSRP, which brings it down to just $9.99, so to get an additional half off that normal sale price is a deal too good to pass up. This is easily the best way to experience the first game in the Resident Evil series until they eventually remake it using the modern RE Engine (which seems like an inevitability at this point), and it’s arguably the best game to grab out of the many Resident Evil deals that are available. As a bonus, the HD remaster of Resident Evil 0 is also $4.99, though you could just as easily skip that polarizing entry.
Terminator: Resistance Enhanced
- Release Date — April 30, 2021
- Developer — Teyon
- Publisher — Reef Entertainment
- Genre — FPS
- Review Aggregate Score — 62% (Mixed or Average)
- Price — $12.49 (Normally $49.99, 75% off)
Now that Teyon has two incredible RoboCop games under its belt (both RoboCop: Rogue City and this year’s phenomenal Unfinished Business expansion/sequel), it’s worth going back and revisiting the developer’s other licensed sci-fi FPS — Terminator: Salvation. While the RoboCop games are undoubtedly better, Terminator: Salvation is a criminally underrated single-player first-person shooter experience that treats its license and source material with care, and the Enhanced version released for PS5 is much more technically sound than the original PS4 version. It might not be that essential at full price, but at just $12 (a whopping 75% off of its MSRP), Terminator: Salvation is definitely worth grabbing.
Returnal
- Release Date — April 30, 2021
- Developer — Housemarque
- Publisher — Sony Interactive Entertainment
- Genre — Action Roguelike
- Review Aggregate Score — 86% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $29.39 (Normally $69.99, 58% off)
Housemarque’s Returnal was one of the first great post-launch first-party titles in the PS5’s library, and it’s only rarely gone on sale since. Right now, you can grab this fantastic third-person shooter/roguelike for just $30, which is a massive (and rare) almost 60% off discount from its normal price. Even if you dislike roguelikes or have no experience with the bullet hell genre, there’s plenty to love about Returnal, including its eerie and atmospheric environmental and creature designs. The game has also improved a ton since launch, with Housemarque adding in co-op, the ability to save and continue from where you left off, and a new endless mode for those seeking an ultimate challenge.
Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart
- Release Date — June 11, 2021
- Developer — Insomniac Games
- Publisher — Sony Interactive Entertainment
- Genre — Action-Platformer, Shooter
- Review Aggregate Score — 88% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $29.39 (Normally $69.99, 58% off)
There are quite a few incredible first-party Sony games that are at a massive 58% off discount right now, and one of the most worthy of a pick-up is Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart. First off, Rift Apart only rarely gets a discount, and when it does, it’s almost never this substantial. That alone would make it worth grabbing while it’s on sale on the PlayStation Store, but it doesn’t hurt that Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart is maybe the best game in the entire franchise (and one of the best first-party titles in the PS5’s library). If you’ve somehow yet to play this title, it’s practically an essential purchase for any PS5 owner, especially if you happen to have a PS5 Pro to get the most from its top-notch visuals and presentation.
Hades
- Release Date — August 13, 2021
- Developer — Supergiant Games
- Publisher — Supergiant Games
- Genre — Action Roguelike
- Review Aggregate Score — 93% (Universal Acclaim)
- Price — $9.99 (Normally $24.99, 60% off)
It feels like it’s almost impossible for anyone not to have played Hades at this point, but even if you have and own it on a different platform, Hades is one of those games that’s 100% worth double-dipping on. Right now, you can grab the PS5 version of Hades for just $10, which is the lowest price we’ve ever seen it hit on the PlayStation Store. Hades II has yet to make its way to either PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, but the original Hades is arguably still the better game and the gold standard by which just about every other action roguelike is rightfully judged. And if you have a PlayStation Portal, you can easily suspend and take Hades on the go for some portable demon-slaying action.
Dead Space Digital Deluxe Edition
- Release Date — January 27, 2023
- Developer — Motive Studio
- Publisher — Electronic Arts
- Genre — Survival Horror
- Review Aggregate Score — 89% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $11.99 (Normally $79.99, 85% off)
When Motive Studio got the opportunity to remake the classic 2008 survival horror game Dead Space, the developer wisely chose to update the aspects of the game that had maybe aged poorly (visuals and sound), while keeping the parts that still held up (virtually everything else) intact. The result is that 2023’s Dead Space is the best way to play one of the best survival horror games to not bear Resident Evil or Silent Hill in its title, and the Digital Deluxe Edition (which includes plenty of downloadable extras) is currently on sale for less than we typically see the standard edition. The Dead Space remake is as essential as the modern Resident Evil remakes and Bloober Team’s Silent Hill 2 remake, and you’re unlikely to see a deal on it as good as this.
Persona 5 Royal
- Release Date — October 21, 2022
- Developer — P-Studio, Atlus
- Publisher — Sega
- Genre — JRPG
- Review Aggregate Score — 91% (Universal Acclaim)
- Price — $17.99 (Normally $59.99, 70% off)
There are a handful of games highlighted on this list that regularly go on sale, and Persona 5 Royal is definitely one that regularly gets a deep discount as part of the typical sales on the PlayStation Store. But right now, you can grab the PS5 version of Persona 5 Royal for just $18, which is $2 less than its traditional sale price of $19.99. Considering you’ll be getting roughly 120 hours of gameplay in one of the best JRPG worlds ever created, $18 seems like a completely fair price. Persona 3 Reload and Metaphor: ReFantazio are also on sale, but when it comes to Atlus RPGs, we’d still pick Persona 5 Royal as the best of the bunch and the perfect starting point for anyone new to the franchise and its unique mechanics.
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
- Release Date — October 31, 2024
- Developer — Guerrilla Games
- Publisher — Sony Interactive Entertainment
- Genre — Action-Adventure
- Review Aggregate Score — 85% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $29.99 (Normally $49.99, 40% off)
Despite only coming out just over a year ago, the remastered version of Horizon Zero Dawn for PS5 is already on sale for just $30, down a whopping 40% from its normal MSRP. Both Horizon Zero Dawn and its sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, are fantastic open-world action-adventure games with compelling plots and a central mystery that connects them both, and the remastered version of the first game makes the most of the PlayStation 5’s horsepower to deliver a visually stunning experience. There are a lot of open-world games on sale right now on the PlayStation Store, and it says a lot about Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered that it’s still one of the best that your money can buy.
Days Gone Remastered
- Release Date — April 25, 2025
- Developer — Bend Studio
- Publisher — Sony Interactive Entertainment
- Genre — Action-Adventure, Survival Horror
- Review Aggregate Score — 78% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $29.99 (Normally $49.99, 40% off)
Speaking of fantastic first-party open-world games, Days Gone Remastered is also on sale for a massive 40% off discount, the first major drop in price it’s had since launching earlier this year in April. Days Gone received a bit of a mixed reception from critics at launch, only to then go on to become a beloved cult classic in the PS4’s library, and this PS5 remaster adds plenty of new content that makes it worth playing regardless of how much experience you have with the original release. The new Horde mode is a massive highlight that serves as its own separate game worth coming back to, but the campaign of Days Gone also happens to look and play better than it ever has in Days Gone Remastered, finally giving the game its due.
Red Dead Redemption & Red Dead Redemption II
- Release Date — August 17, 2023 (Red Dead Redemption); October 26, 2018 (Red Dead Redemption II)
- Developer — Rockstar San Diego, Rockstar Games
- Publisher — Rockstar Games
- Genre — Action-Adventure
- Review Aggregate Score — 78% (Red Dead Redemption); 97% (Red Dead Redemption II)
- Price — $39.99 (Normally $99.99, 60% off)
Easily one of the best deals available on the PlayStation Store right now, you can currently get a bundle that includes both the 2023 PS4 remaster of Red Dead Redemption, along with Red Dead Redemption II for just $40, down from its normal $100 MSRP. Together, these games represent some of the best content that Rockstar Games has ever produced. To get any one of them separately for this price would be a deal worth grabbing, so to get them both at a historically low price makes this bundle a virtual no-brainer to grab if you don’t happen to already own either of these Western epics. As a bonus, players can get a free PS5 upgrade for Red Dead Redemption, which we hope is something that Rockstar will eventually roll out for the sequel one of these days.
Demon’s Souls
- Release Date — November 19, 2020
- Developer — Japan Studio, Bluepoint Games
- Publisher — Sony Interactive Entertainment
- Genre — Action RPG
- Review Aggregate Score — 92% (Universal Acclaim)
- Price — $29.39 (Normally $69.99, 58% off)
Of all the first-party games on sale as part of the End of Year Deals event on the PlayStation Store, one of the rarest to ever get a discount is Bluepoint Games’ remake of Demon’s Souls. Until December 22, though, you can grab this excellent PS5 launch title for just $30, which is a very reasonable price to pay for one of the best remakes of this generation (and one of the best Soulslike games). While some players prefer the PS3 original to the PS5 remake, there’s no denying that Bluepoint Games did a fantastic job updating the visuals and presentation to make Demon’s Souls stand tall alongside the later games in the FromSoftware catalog.
Ghost of Tsushima Director’s Cut
- Release Date — August 20, 2021
- Developer — Sucker Punch Productions
- Publisher — Sony Interactive Entertainment
- Genre — Action-Adventure, Stealth
- Review Aggregate Score — 87% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $35.49 (Normally $69.99, 49% off)
Funnily enough, you can grab Assassin’s Creed Shadows for its lowest-ever price as part of the End of the Year Deals Sale. But why get the latest AC game set in feudal Japan when you can get something better: Ghost of Tsushima. Ghost of Tsushima delivered on players’ longtime-held desire for a Japan-set Assassin’s Creed game years before Shadows, and it did so while delivering a better story, more satisfying combat, and a visually stunning world that mixed realism with elements of Japanese spirituality and mythology. The Director’s Cut version of Ghost of Tsushima that includes the Ikki Island expansion and the multiplayer Ghost of Tsushima: Legends mode is down to its lowest-ever price of just $35, and is maybe even the better game to grab over its sequel, this year’s Ghost of Yotei.
Mortal Kombat 1: Definitive Edition
- Release Date — September 19, 2023
- Developer — NetherRealm Studios
- Publisher — Warner Bros. Games
- Genre — Fighting
- Review Aggregate Score — 83% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $17.49 (Normally $69.99, 75% off)
Anytime there’s a new NetherRealm Studios fighting game, it’s always a good idea to wait a while before picking it up to see just how outlandish some of its DLC characters are. The reason for that is the “Definitive Edition” that typically comes out including all these characters sometime after launch, which is precisely the path that Mortal Kombat 1 took. You can currently pick up the Definitive Edition of Mortal Kombat 1 for an impressive $17, which includes both the base game and the litany of great DLC fighters like Conan the Barbarian and Omni-Man from Robert Kirkman’s Invincible. If you’ve held off on getting the latest Mortal Kombat until now, your patience is being rewarded with this deal.
Doom: The Dark Ages
- Release Date — May 15, 2025
- Developer — id Software
- Publisher — Bethesda Softworks
- Genre — FPS
- Review Aggregate Score — 83% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $34.99 (Normally $69.99, 50% off)
After hitting a record low price during Black Friday on several storefronts, the PlayStation Store is now featuring Doom: The Dark Ages at a 50% discount to match. This year’s third game in the modern Doom trilogy is a very different beast from both of its predecessors, sitting somewhere between the ability-juggling mayhem of Doom Eternal and the straightforward movement and shooting action of 2016’s Doom. Whether that sounds like the series’ “Goldilocks” moment depends on how you felt about Doom Eternal, and players seem to be fairly split on some of the additions that Dark Ages makes, like the vehicle sections and the new parry mechanic. But if you’re looking for a killer FPS game with a gripping campaign, you could hardly do better than Doom: The Dark Ages.
Gran Turismo 7
- Release Date — March 4, 2022
- Developer — Polyphony Digital
- Publisher — Sony Interactive Entertainment
- Genre — Driving/Racing
- Review Aggregate Score — 87% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $31.99 (Normally $69.99, 54% off)
Capping off our list of the unmissable games to grab on the PlayStation Store right now is Gran Turismo 7, which is down to just $32 from its normal $70 MSRP. The popularity and continued success of Gran Turismo 7 mean it rarely ever goes on sale, so for it to get this deep of a discount (and right on the heels of a major free update) is a Christmas miracle. And if you happen to be the fortunate recipient of a PSVR 2 or a PS5 Pro, you’re unlikely to find a game that’s as visually impressive or immersive as Gran Turismo 7. Even with Forza Horizon 5 now on the PS5, Gran Turismo 7 is arguably still the console’s best racing and driving simulation game.
