The PlayStation Store July Savings Sale is Live: Here are 10 Games Worth Grabbing
Coinciding with the closing out of most of the other big video game sales (the Nintendo eShop Summer Sale, Steam Summer Sale, Green Man Gaming’s Sunshine Sale, etc.) is the start of the next PlayStation Store sale, the July Savings event. July Savings might not have quite as many high-profile deals as Sony’s own Days of Play event or the other major game sales that are wrapping this week, but it does have a few noteworthy titles with heavy discounts that are worth grabbing. The July Savings event kicked off this past weekend and runs until July 16, 2025, with the following 10 titles our picks for games worth grabbing while it’s still active.
Dragon’s Crown Pro
- Release Date — February 8, 2018
- Developer — Vanillaware
- Publisher — Atlus
- Genre — Beat ’em Up, Action RPG
- Review Aggregate Score — 80% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $3.99 (Normally $19.99, 80% off)
Vanillaware’s action RPG/beat ’em up hybrid Dragon’s Crown Pro was originally one of the best games on the PS Vita before it eventually came to PlayStation 3 and then PlayStation 4, and it’s currently a whopping 80% off. For just $4, players can pick up a game that follows closely in the footsteps of Vanillaware founder George Kamitani’s work on the classic Capcom beat ’em up Dungeons and Dragons: Shadows over Mystara, and the ability to play either online or in couch co-op makes Dragon’s Crown Pro an essential for any PS4/PS5 owner with an interest in the genre.
Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate
- Release Date — November 17, 2020
- Developer — NetherRealm Studios
- Publisher — Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment
- Genre — Fighting
- Review Aggregate Score — 88% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $5.99 (Normally $59.99, 90% off)
There are quite a few great fighting games on sale as part of the PlayStation Store July Savings event, but one of the best deals is on Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate. Alongside the PS5-enhanced version of the base game, you’re getting access to all the DLC characters released for Mortal Kombat 11, making this the complete MK11 package for a fraction of its normal price. Even better, there’s a bundle that you can pick up for just $10 that includes Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate and the Legendary Edition of the equally great Injustice 2.
Conscript
- Release Date — July 23, 2024
- Developer — Jordan Mochi, Catchweight Studio
- Publisher — Team17
- Genre — Survival Horror
- Review Aggregate Score — 74% (Mixed or Average)
- Price — $10.99 (Normally $21.99, 50% off)
Solo developer Jordan Mochi painstakingly researched World War I to craft his atmospheric survival horror game, Conscript, going so far as to visit actual battlegrounds and get insight from real-world historians. That commitment to detail pays off in Conscript‘s incredibly tense and unnerving atmosphere, which does a great job of immersing players in the very real horrors of the First World War. Conscript isn’t a perfect game and does rely a bit too heavily on backtracking, but it’s one of the better retro survival horror titles and an absolute steal at just $11.
Granblue Fantasy: Relink
- Release Date — February 1, 2024
- Developer — Osaka Cygames
- Publisher — Cygames
- Genre — Action RPG
- Review Aggregate Score — 80% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $23.99 (Normally $59.99, 60% off)
Slightly overshadowed by the release of Persona 3 Reload just a day later, Granblue Fantasy: Relink is an excellent action RPG that continues to fly under most genre fans’ radars despite being an incredible game. Granblue Fantasy: Relink is great as a solo player, but it’s arguably even better when playing in 4-player co-op, getting to really push its fun combat system to the limit. Even if you think you might not have room in the backlog for another RPG, Relink is worth grabbing, especially at its current 60% off discount.
The Callisto Protocol: Digital Deluxe Edition
- Release Date — December 2, 2022
- Developer — Striking Distance Studios
- Publisher — Krafton
- Genre — Survival Horror
- Review Aggregate Score — 69% (Mixed or Average)
- Price — $13.49 (Normally $89.99, 85% off)
Both players and critics seemed largely disappointed in The Callisto Protocol based on the pedigree of its developer (Striking Distance Studios was helmed by Glen Schofield, creator of the original Dead Space), but going into it with low expectations proves that it’s totally competent experience, even if it is a little shallow. Imagine Dead Space with a Punch-Out!! style combat system, and you’re not far off. The Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes the one and only DLC for Callisto Protocol, is currently down to just under $14, making checking it out a way less risky proposition.
Assassin’s Creed Antiquity Pack
- Release Date — October 27, 2017 (Assassin’s Creed Origins); October 5, 2018 (Assassin’s Creed Odyssey)
- Developer — Ubisoft Montreal, Ubisoft Quebec
- Publisher — Ubisoft
- Genre — Action-Adventure, Open-World, Stealth
- Review Aggregate Score — 81% – Assassin’s Creed Origins (Generally Favorable); 83% – Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $19.99 (Normally $99.99, 80% off)
Why get just one Assassin’s Creed game when you can get two? The Assassin’s Creed Antiquity Bundle that includes both Assassin’s Creed Origins and Odyssey is currently just $20 on the PlayStation Store, delivering hundreds of hours of historical tourism and surprisingly deep action RPG combat and gameplay. The first two games in the newer open-world style of Assassin’s Creed design, both Origins and Odyssey strike a good balance between their main story and open-world content, not nearly as long in the tooth as Valhalla while still offering up plenty of fun and worthwhile side quests.
Persona 3 Reload
- Release Date — February 2, 2024
- Developer — P-Studio, Atlus
- Publisher — Sega
- Genre — JRPG
- Review Aggregate Score — 87% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $31.49 (Normally $69.99, 55% off)
The Persona series’ ongoing rise in popularity, courtesy of Persona 5, helped pave the way for a modern remake of Persona 3, taking the first of the “modern” Persona games helmed by Shoji Meguro and giving it a huge graphical overhaul. Persona 3 Reload smooths out a lot of the rough edges of both the original Persona 3 and Persona 3 Portable to be the best-looking and playing version of the game, even if it does trim some of the extra content that longtime fans loved. At 55% off, it’s a no-brainer for any JRPG fan to grab Persona 3 Reload if they haven’t yet.
Unicorn Overlord
- Release Date — March 8, 2024
- Developer — Vanillaware
- Publisher — Atlus, Sega
- Genre — TRPG/SRPG
- Review Aggregate Score — 86% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $23.99 (Normally $59.99, 60% off)
Another Vanillaware game to grab during the July Savings sale, and another Atlus RPG, Unicorn Overlord is at its lowest ever price right now. The vision for Unicorn Overlord was for the title to pay homage to all the greatest games in the TRPG/SRPG subgenre, and it shows in how near-perfect its gameplay, challenge, and customization are. You could easily spend over 100 hours in Unicorn Overlord, then come right back and do it all again differently. It’s one of the greatest games in the genre in years and an absolute steal at just $24.
Returnal
- Release Date — April 30, 2021
- Developer — Housemarque
- Publisher — Sony Interactive Entertainment
- Genre — Shooter, Roguelike
- Review Aggregate Score — 86% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $29.39 (Normally $69.99, 58% off)
Another title that rarely ever goes on sale on the PlayStation Store is Housemarque’s Returnal, which is currently almost 60% off at just $29. When it was first released, Returnal quickly established itself as one of the best games on the PS5, and it somehow still holds that position nearly 5 years later. Returnal is a near-perfect sci-fi action roguelike with some incredible visuals, atmosphere, and boss designs that only seems to get better the more you play it. Even if you dislike roguelike games, it’s worth giving Returnal a shot.
Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered
- Release Date — November 12, 2020
- Developer — Insomniac Games
- Publisher — Sony Interactive Entertainment
- Genre — Action-Adventure, Open-World
- Review Aggregate Score — 87% (Generally Favorable)
- Price — $24.99 (Normally $49.99, 50% off)
Insomniac’s Spider-Man games are essential for any PlayStation owner and some of the best superhero games ever made, so to see the remastered PS5 version of the first Spider-Man down to just $25 is worth highlighting. Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered is currently at a rare 50% off discount, which positions it as one of the best deals during the July Savings event. And the Remastered moniker goes a lot further than just visual upgrades, adding in things like DualSense haptic feedback that make traversal and combat more immersive.
